The working principle of a double suction pump is based on the basic principle of a centrifugal pump
Impeller design: The impeller of a double suction pump consists of two back-to-back impellers, which allows liquid to enter from both ends of the impeller simultaneously, thereby increasing the flow rate.
The operation of a double suction pump
The role of centrifugal force: When the impeller rotates at high speed, the liquid is thrown out of the impeller under the action of centrifugal force, forming a high-pressure area.
Formation of Low Pressure Zone: A low-pressure zone is formed at the center of the impeller, where atmospheric pressure continuously draws liquid into the center of the impeller.
Circulation process: After the liquid is thrown out, it flows into the pressurized water pipeline through the volute, forming a continuous suction and discharge process.
Difference from single suction pump
Water inlet method: Double suction pumps inlet water from both ends of the impeller, while single suction pumps inlet water from one end of the impeller.
Flow rate: Due to the design of the double suction pump impeller, its flow rate can be doubled under the same impeller outer diameter.
Price: Double suction pumps are usually priced higher than single suction pumps due to their complex structural design.
